This Wednesday, an old man won’t be popping down your chimney—but a whole lot of kids will be ending up at your door.
They’re doing their own part to spread some holiday spirit by collecting extra food for folks who need it.
The 11th annual Alberni District Secondary School (ADSS) Athletic Department food drive is back and better than ever.
The kids look forward to the food drive every year, and it has become “one of the most anticipated events” for student athletes.
“They love to give back for so many community partners that help us,” said Athletic Director Mike Roberts to Alberni Valley News.
He said the food drive is an awesome chance for everyone to come together and help these kids make a difference.
“Our efforts make a considerable difference in our community food bank.”
With food and housing prices going up, places like the community food bank have seen more folks at their door. So it’s important that we rally around our neighbours, especially at Christmas.
No drop-offs are necessary. The kids and teachers taking the time to go door-to-door saves the rest of us from having to venture out into the cold.
They’ll be doing rounds by everyone’s homes to collect donations and anything you’ve forgotten at the back of your cupboard.
That being said, they can’t quite hit every house the way Santa does.
If anyone would like to help tick a chimney off the list, the school will also be accepting anything you have to bring at that time.
“If people have food items they would like to donate, we will accept them at the school the same evening,” said Roberts.
The kids will be out from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Monday, December 5th. Helping them out seems like a pretty great way to give back and get your name off the naughty list.
