Islandlink Saves The Day With New Tofino Bus

The bus will run three times per week in the winter months and then daily come summer

New service bringing a sigh of relief for locals

Islandlink heard the public outcry last week after The Tofino Bus announced they’d be cancelling their service.

Many people weren’t sure how they’d get in or out of town without the service, and luckily Island link has stepped up to fill in the gaps.

They’ve just announced they’ll be starting a new Nanaimo-Tofino bus service!

They’re set to run three times a week starting on January 30.

“We’ve looked at the numbers, and with our 15-passenger vehicles, we’re able to add this service,” Phillip Morgan, the owner of Islandlink, said in a press release.

The route will run both ways between the Nanaimo Ferry Terminal and Tofino, making multiple stops along the way, including Port Alberni and Ucluelet.

It will stick with the three runs per week until Mid-May when they’ll switch to daily service for the Summer.

They plan on operating the route year-round.

“With our track record of serving Vancouver Island continuously for nearly 25 years, including during the pandemic, when we missed only two days of service, we are pleased to be able to now provide this same level of reliability to Port Alberni, Ucluelet and Tofino.”

It’s very welcome news for people in the area, who rely on the bus for many purposes.

“It’s a very valuable way of getting out of town, connecting with family, [and going to] medical appointments,” one user told the CBC
