Island MP’s Offices Attacked by Anti-vaxx Vandals

Oceanside RCMP are looking for video footage and any potential witnesses

Early last week staff were cleaning up the mess at the offices of Rachel Blaney and Gord Johns

Two Vancouver Island NDP Members of Parliament had their offices vandalized over the past week. Last Monday morning, staff arrived at the office of North Island-Powell River MP Rachel Blaney in downtown Campbell River to find anti-vaxx mandate messages posted on the door and windows.

Then sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, vandals also attacked the Parksville headquarters of Courtenay-Alberni MP Gord Johns, smashing the glass door and two front windows.

In a statement, Johns said constituency office staff have been working hard to serve the community during the pandemic.

“They should not be subjected to threatening or violent behaviour at their place of work,” he said.

Majorie Driscall, who co-owns Endless Treasures Thrift Shop two doors down from Johns’s office, told CTV News that she noticed the smashed windows after arriving to work around 8:45 Tuesday morning.

“My first thought is, ‘Oh my goodness,’ cause things like that don’t happen here,” Driscall said.

Oceanside RCMP is investigating the incident. They say the damage occurred overnight and that it doesn’t appear that the culprits entered the office. Police seek video footage of the area and ask anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity to call the detachment at 250-248-6111.
