In BC, 95% of new COVID-19 cases are the Delta variant. That’s scary.
And let me tell you, friends, that didn’t take long.
Three weeks ago, only 33% of COVID-19 cases were Delta. Now, it’s nearly all of them.
That’s because the Delta variant is even more contagious than the original COVID-19 and all the crappy variants it has spawned. Doctors say it’s as contagious as chickenpox. And that is very contagious!
Even worse, fully vaccinated people can still get the Delta variant if they are around enough sick people. And if they get Delta, they can spread it, too.
It’s super hard to know what to do because BC won’t release enough data.
On Friday, BC had 464 new cases of COVID-19. Active cases were over 2,400. We know that the worst outbreaks are in the BC Interior, and that’s where most of the Delta variant is hanging out. There were only 24 new cases on the Island on Friday, August 6.
But we don’t know how many of those sick people have been vaccinated.
The number of people who are mostly or fully vaccinated on Vancouver Island is really good! Thanks to things like the whole community approach, in lots of places, more than 80% of folks are fully vaxxed.
But is that enough?
Without knowing how many fully vaccinated people are getting sick on the Island, we don’t know if we’re doing all the right things to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.
We want to do the right thing. We really do. Especially now that American tourists (who are supposed to be fully vaccinated) can start returning to the Island.
Give us the data we need, Dr. Bonnie. If we want to be calm, safe, and kind, we need to be informed.
