Black Creek Runner Breaks Canadian Record…Again!

He's back and better than ever!

Cam Levins beat the odds and made a historic comeback

He’s back and better than ever!

Cam Levins has had a hell of a year… or years, in fact. He went from setting a Canadian record in 2018 to near last place at last year’s Olympics. This week he broke his old Canadian record.

It’s been a wild ride.

After four years of disappointing finishes, dropouts, and losing his sponsors, the tide has finally turned. Now Levins is giving us the VanIsle underdog story of the century!

“I’m thrilled, obviously. I’m over the moon,” he said of his record-breaking run at the World Track and Field Championships on Sunday.

He placed fourth in the marathon, coming in at 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 9 seconds. He slashed more than two minutes off his previous Canadian record, which he set at the 2018 Toronto Waterfront Marathon.

In his marathon debut in 2018, Levins broke the record set by Jerome Drayton 43 years ago.

“I really just took a lot away from the last Olympics and realized I need to be better in every way,” said Levins. He finished 72nd in the men’s marathon at the Tokyo Olympics.

“I really worked and changed myself as an athlete from last year to this year. I know I’ve earned this, and I deserve to run with these guys. I felt great. I would have only been happier if I was one place higher, but it’s the best race of my life, so I can’t be disappointed with it.”

He says that while he was going for a medal and just barely missed it, he won’t stop anytime soon.

“I hope I have a long career still ahead of me, and that was just the tip of the iceberg.”

We’re rooting for you, Cam!
